2007 Annual Meeting

Banner (Do we really need to say anything more?)

Tim Amyx started this discussion session with opening remarks in which he queried the audience about which Cohort they were a part of and by inviting all to share their experiences and present concerns.

Topics discussed:
• Registration issues – How to control students’ registration times? Answers shared varied from the setting of holds to use of PIN numbers.

• Security – Fine grain access was explained.

• How were existing holds in SIS converted to Banner? SIS hold types were mapped to Banner hold types. Comments about the holds were created on SPACMNT.

• Pros and cons of printing class schedules were shared.

• How does repeat processing work? How long does end-of-term processing take? There is a problem with repeat processing in that the process modifies previous term gpas.

• Reporting tools and associated problems – The main tools discussed were WEB Focus and Microsoft Access.

• Official reporting - Issues with this process are still being addressed.

• Tape load procedures – some institutions have not yet worked out this procedure and other shared about how they have successfully made it work.

• Duplicate record issues – most institutions acknowledged that this issue is a problem for them.
