2007 Annual Meeting
Living Life Wisely
Keynote Speaker: Gary Gibson, University Registrar, Vanderbilt
University
Recorder: Janice Choate, Assistant Registrar, Lipscomb
University
Gary Gibson, no stranger to TACRAO, along with his wife, Martha,
shared some life experiences with us in the keynote address in
the Friday morning session at the November meeting. Gary, a
“dumper”, and Martha, a “stuffer”, overcame the differences in
their backgrounds and turned these differences into strengths to
compliment each other.
Gary related past and present challenges to illustrate several
coping strategies. Office relationships should be nurtured as
family. Loyalty is gained and staff members retained in this
type of environment. Choose a positive attitude toward life;
distance yourself from negative and complaining people. Be an
encourager as a leader. Keep worry in its place; it will not
change anything. Challenges provide opportunities for growth.
Choose friends carefully. Do what needs to be done. Manage
stress before it manages you. Living life is a process. Don’t
give up. Balance your life in work and play.
Thank you, Gary, for these words of wisdom as you retire from
the registrar world. Best wishes from all of your friends in
TACRAO.
