Greetings from your
President! What happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas, right? Well, The TACRAO version of Vegas is Knoxvegas and we want you to take loads of information back to your institution. This year’s TACRAO Annual Meeting and Conference will be held at the spectacular Knoxville Hilton from November 18-20. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to sharpen your professional skills, find out what’s new in higher education, and re-new friendships with colleagues in our state. Our conference site is the Knoxville Hilton -- a fabulous facility in the center of downtown. The Hilton is within walking distance to everything downtown—including Market Square, which features restaurants, clubs and shops and one block from the World’s Fair Park. Our Big Event on Wednesday night will be a fun evening of Vegas style entertainment complete with a casino and a Vegas buffet. We are excited to have Patsy Hatfield Lawson (of Hatfield-McCoy fame) as our Keynote Speaker on Friday morning. She is a nationally recognized storyteller. Ms. Lawson grew up listening to her Mama and Aunt Ruby’s stories on their front porch in Tennessee. She combines a unique sense of warmth and humor with the keen understanding of human behavior to deliver an entertaining program that offers hope and understanding. You will leave this session with a renewed sense of purpose, and a better connection to yourself, your past, and your peers. This year’s TACRAO service project is with the Literacy Imperative, Inc., whose mission is to provide tools of literacy to under-served communities. Reaching young children at an early age and encouraging them to read helps prepare them for a promising future that includes higher education. We are collecting children’s books (both new and gently used) to donate. Please bring one, two, or more books that are appropriate for children birth to 5. During last year’s conference, we collected over 800 books to donate to the Chattanooga Literacy Council. Let’s exceed that goal this year! Register Online! The preferred method of registration is online, but if you need or want to register by mail, you can do that too. Registration Packet The registration packet has everything you need to sign up for the annual meeting. Download and print as many as you need. Door Prizes Remember to pack those door prizes! Each attendee is encouraged to bring at least one college logo item to be used as a door prize during the conference wrap-up. Service Project TACRAO will be collecting books again this year for children ages birth through 5 years to present to the Literacy Imperative, Inc. on Friday morning. Please bring new or gently used books to donate to this worthy cause. We will have collection boxes available at registration and on Friday morning before breakfast. |
