Session 3.3 Famous Personalities and Course Registration Announcements: A
Case Study
Jackson
Specifically meant for Registrars and those with registration responsibilities, this workshop will pose questions about how to deal with registration for “special” opportunity courses. This case study focuses on Vanderbilt’s announcement that former Congressman and Senatorial Candidate Harold Ford would teach a course at Vanderbilt. Details about the course relevant to registration were not known until late in the registration/change period. The workshop will cover fallout from student perceptions about the registration announcement and process. The session will close with a brainstorming activity in which registrars will formulate questions about their role in the announcement of a high-publicized, “celebrity”-taught course.

Session 3.4 Running a University is like Running a Restaurant
Memphis
Do your customers have to make choices that do not make sense? So do
restaurant customers; for example, found on one restaurant’s menu:
"Ham and Cheese - $2.50. Cheese and Ham - $2.90."
Have you ever thought about how similar the university is to a restaurant? I
never saw these similarities until I myself opened a restaurant! Come to this
session and find out how running a university is like running a restaurant.
