Admissions Counselor – East Tennessee State University

East Tennessee State University Office of Admissions is accepting applications for Admissions Counselor:

Job Summary:

Responsible to the Associate Director of Admissions for Recruitment for representing ETSU to a diverse group of freshmen, transfer, and returning students; recruitment of prospective students in a specified territory based on enrollment and application data; coordinating high school and community college visitation programs and events; conducting formal and informal presentations and public speaking engagements with high school and community college counselors and advisors, administrators, students, and parents; supporting student retention; and performing other duties as assigned. The Admissions Counselor serves as a front-line service provider with primary in-office student admission counseling, recruitment travel, and communication with prospective students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of university and higher education system policies, procedures, structure and services offered.
Knowledge of university admission requirements.
Knowledge of registration procedures.
Knowledge of current career trends.
Knowledge of course equivalencies and transfer issues.
Knowledge of all academic and student services areas at ETSU.
Knowledge of university catalog including degree requirements for all programs and majors.
Knowledge of all university policies regarding admissions, retention and graduation requirements.
Knowledge of ETSU policies and applicable Tennessee Code Annotated.
Ability to travel extensively in recruiting efforts.
Ability to communicate effectively to large groups or individuals.
Ability to counsel students and parents regarding university related matters.


Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required; Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills. Available to attend events during evenings and weekends, travel and stay overnight out of town. Overnight travel will be required. Valid driver’s license. Official transcripts required upon hire.


Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree preferred; two to three years of experience on a college admissions counseling staff, in student services, or other comparable collegiate /business experience preferred.
Experience with or knowledge about East Tennessee State University, or higher education institutions in Tennessee preferred.
